Module 12

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

  • I chose the two following videos, The Art of Henry Moore  along with Andy Warhol: Images of an Image. I chose the first one because it seemed like an interesting topic I wanted to explore further. The second video I chose because I had seen Andy Warhol's art in the past, I knew vaguely of him and definitely wanted to know more. I also feel like the two videos would be related in some way, which intrigued me.

  • Andy Warhol was an iconic 20th Century American Artist. He is known for being a key figure in the Pop Art Movement of the mid 20th Century. He was critical of capitalism and the consumerist society. He utilized the ubiquity of mass media in the America of his time to create his art. He made these things and people seem nothing more than a product, intentionally de-glorified. Aside from his biography, the video featured the various techniques used to create his artworks including the use of stencils, photographs and screen-printing techniques.

  • Henry Moore was a 20th century English Artist known for his bronze sculptures. The video discussed his early life, his work as a soldier and then as an artist. These sculptures can be found in many urban areas, and are indicative of the modernist movement. A multitude of these sculptures are abstractions of various human figures. He left a long lasting legacy and in his years was considered a voice for the British Modernist movement and a face for British Art as a whole, being known and celebrated worldwide.

  • The text provided a descriptive biographical entry of Warhol and Moore. Several of Warhol's work were shown as examples with plentiful images. The video on Henry Moore helped me understand a bit more on the Modernist Movement, specifically with sculptures. The textbook has ample information on Modernism and Modernism within Britain.

  • The two videos were very informative. I knew some about Andy Warhol before watching the video on him, and after I feel like I know much more about his life and the meaning behind his artwork. Seeing his living figure and other examples of his work and a new interpretation helped me understand the content related to Warhol in the textbook. I knew nothing about Henry Moore nor the Modernist Movement of the 20th Century within Britain previous to watching the video on him, after watching the related content in the textbook is much more digestible and I feel as thought I am having an easier time comprehending what is being conveyed.
